It seems as though cap space-saving measures are fully in effect now for the New Orleans Saints, with three straight restructures being announced in the span of only a few hours. All three players who ended up having their contracts adjusted are veterans who are expected to remain with the team for a few more years, with Chase Young and Justin Reid being the first two off the table.

Third up on the list of restructures was tight end Juwan Johnson, who signed a three-year deal last offseason to remain with the franchise long-term. Given this, they were able to move the money onto the back end of the deal, converting his base salary, as they did with Reid. Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football was the first to report this news.

Now, how much will this save the Saints, and where do they sit currently in terms of functional cap? Including the other two prior restructures, the Saints should be right around $12.5 million under the salary cap, with the Johnson deal accounting for $6,982,000 towards that figure.

As we mentioned previously for the Reid restructure, all money they save now on any additional contract changes will be solely to allow them to spend more money on future free agents, which makes this process even more fun compared to previous years, as it is not a forced choice, but rather one to be able to compete for some big-name assets.

$12.5 million is no small chunk of change, and that is only after three moves, so it will be fascinating to see how the Saints continue to build up some usable money ahead of the legal tampering period.
