Roy and McDade combine for seven goals in Sturgis West's tourney win

The Sturgis West girls lacrosse team picked up a win in their first state tournament appearance since 2023.

Savannah Roy tallied four goals and Cora McDade pitched in a hat trick as No. 31 Sturgis West defeated No. 34 Smith Voke 15-8 in a Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 4 preliminary round matchup on Tuesday at McBarron Field.

Bridgit Dwyer also added a hat trick of goals. Nancy Dao and Olivia Cabral each scored twice. Brynn Dowie recorded a goal.

Ceci O'Connor backstopped the winning effort with eight saves in goal.

Sturgis West will play second-ranked Ipswich on May 28.

Girls Lacrosse​


Div. 3, Preliminary Round: No. 29 No. St. John Paul II 24, No. 36 Bristol-Plymouth RVT 15 — Mia Curley tallied eight goals and an assist, while Akira Umbrello chipped in seven goals and four assists to lead the Lions (8-12). Sophie Philbrick (one goal) recorded eight assists, Lexi McCarthy had two assists and Raegen Dillon (two goals) and Kaitlin Chun each had one assist. Sophia Jansen and Julia Johnson each scored twice.

The Lions advance to face No. 4 Newburyport in the Round of 32 on May 27.

Div. 2, Preliminary Round: No. 25 Barnstable 18, No. 40 Bay Path RVT 5 — The Red Hawks continued their momentum into the postseason with a fourth straight win overall behind six goals and three assists from Emelie Jonsson. Caroline Meins tallied a hat trick, Avery Croteau had two goals and Caroline Curley added a goal and an assist. Makayla Bishop, Kera Clifford, Catherine Buckler and Isla Curley all scored once, while Charlotte Hackney and Malia Vecchione both recorded their first varsity goals. Morgan Mueller made 12 saves.

The Red Hawks will travel to No. 8 Grafton in the Round of 32 for a game that's scheduled for May 27.

Div. 4, Round of 32: No. 8 Nantucket 19, No. 25 Monomoy 4 — Louisa Beni notched career goal 100 as she tallied five goals and an assist for the Whalers (17-2) against the Sharks (2-17). Grace Hanlon scored five times and Grace Schroeder added three goals and four assists.

The Whalers will face the winner of No. 9 Bromfield and No. 24 Triton Regional at a date and time to be determined.

Girls Tennis​


Div. 2, Round of 32: No. 14 Marblehead 4, No. 19 Nauset 1 — The Warriors (8-9) lost for just the second time in five games to end their season.

Div. 3, Preliminary Round: No. 28 Sandwich 4, No. 37 Lowell Catholic 1 — The Blue Knights (3-12) picked a great time to end a five-match losing streak as they advanced to the Round of 32. They will play at No. 5 Monomoy on May 29.

Div. 3, Preliminary Round: No. 30 Wilmington 10, No. 35 Martha's Vineyard 2 — The Vineyarders (9-8) saw their season come to an end as they lost back-to-back games for the first time since the start of May.
