Martha’s Vineyard baseball advances after shutout win vs Medfield

The Martha's Vineyard baseball team is heating at the right time as they have won four of their last five games.

The latest came in the MIAA state tournament as the No. 29 Vineyarders (11-10) beat No. 36 Medfield 8-0 in the Division 3 Preliminary Round.

Eli Bryant threw a complete a complete game and allowed two hits with six strikeouts. Joe Medeiros went 2-for-4 with one triple, two scored runs and one RBI. Cris Cardoza was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Matt MacMillan was 2-for-4 with one double and two RBIs.

They will face a familiar opponent next round as they face No. 4 Falmouth on June 1. The Clippers won both matchups over the Vineyarders.

Baseball​


Div. 4, Preliminary Round: No. 20 Mashpee 5, No. 45 Westport 1: The Falcons (7-12) are figuring it out as they have won four straight after a 3-12 start to the season. They will look to keep that win streak alive in the in the Round of 32 against No. 13 Wahconah Regional.

Girls Tennis​


Div. 3, Round of 32: No. 9 Falmouth 4, No. 24 Academy of Notre Dame 1: The Clippers (13-4) opened their playoffs with a home win. They will travel on the road to face No. 8 Wilmington on June 3.

Div. 3, Round of 32: No. 5 Monomoy 4, No. 28 Sandwich 1: The Sharks (17-2) started their playoff run with a fourth straight victory. They will host No. 12 Weston on June 2.

The Blue Knights (3-13) beat No. 37 Lowell Catholic 4-1 in the preliminary round.

Div. 4, Round of 32: No. 16 Pioneer Vall. Chinese Imm. 5, No. 17 Sturgis West 0: The Navigators (3-8) lost in their opening round of the playoffs.

Boys Tennis​


Div. 3, Round of 32: No. 14 Martha's Vineyard 4, No. 19 Fairhaven 1: The Vineyarders (13-4) won their first playoff game of the season.

Boys Volleyball​


Div. 1, Round of 32: No. 14 Barnstable 3, No. 19 Winchester 1: The Red Hawks (17-4) advanced to the Round of 16 as they won 25-13, 25-19, 21-25, 25-23.

Girls Lacrosse​


Div. 3, Round of 16: No. 5 Wayland 18, No. 12 Falmouth 8: The Clippers (13-7) could not pick up back-to-back playoff wins. They defeated No. 21 North Middlesex Reg. 18-5 in the Round of 32.
