Report: Uli Hoeneß ‘personal intervention’ critical in Bayern Munich talks with Konrad Laimer

Bayern Munich’s contract impasse with star right-back Konrad Laimer appears to be drawing to a close — and it is thanks in significant part to the personal efforts of honorary president Uli Hoeneß, according to a report.

Hoeneß had previously made waves with stance on how far Bayern would go in its proposal, then made peace with the player at Bayern’s Bundesliga title celebrations. Still, the club’s strong stance appears to have won out. From Sport1, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:

Uli Hoeneß has personally intervened in the new contract negotiations with Konrad Laimer and told the player’s agents in clear terms about the financial limits the club won’t exceed. Hoeneß’ intervention appears to be successful. There are strong indications that Laimer would get a rather moderate pay rise if he wants to stay in Munich. The big figures that had previously circulated in the media are no longer relevant [@StefanKumberger, @SPORT1]

A modest bump would be a sensible solution from a Bayern perspective. If Laimer still wants to stay, he will still be rewarded for it.
