Most fans of the Boston Celtics have been glued to the fallout of the Celtics pursuit of Milwaukee Bucks star big man Giannis Antetokounmpo and the potential fallout of dangling Jaylen Brown and then losing the trade offer war to the Miami Heat. Plenty of others are locked in on what Boston did in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft by selecting Houston forward Chris Cenac Jr., as well as what they are planning to do in the second round of the draft on Wednesday (June 24) night.

But in the midst of all that Celtics-inflected activity, another tidbit of Boston-adjacent news popped off -- Celtics point guard Derrick White has been named the new President of Basketball Strategy for the University of Colorado - Boulder Men’s Basketball Team, per recent reporting from SB Nation Celtics beat writer Noa Dalzell.

Following in the steps of former Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets star Tracy McGrady and current Celtics star Jayson Tatum, White is one of several NBA alumni or active players working with their alma mater to help develop a new generation of basketball talent.

White attended Colorado for a single season after spending much of his collegiate career playing Division II basketball.

The Colorado native was then drafted out of that school in 2017 by the San Antonio Spurs.
