Keim and Disner come through for Mitch!

It's weird that we're jettisoning these guys in the run-up to the draft. I'm not sure what the argument is for trimming the roster right now. I wonder if we have some late-FA signings coming in or something.

I think Keim is doing it just to confuse the draft pundits

I think this move is done to bring back Powers. Didn't someone mention the offer he got from NY was around $2.5M?

As much as I absolutely love Redding as a person and locker room guy, this isn't surprising at his age.

They needed that 3 mil of cap space. Good move by Cards

He was an easy target from a cap cutting perspective. But like many have said it is curious about the timing.

I don't get it.. He's 36 and cost 3 million.. Why keep him around during workouts and have him get hurt and have to pay out an injury settlement? What would be the point in waiting?

I guess the question is why wait this long. If they were not going to keep him why didn't they cut him earlier.

There has to be a reason the Cardinals waited this long---perhaps they asked Redding to take a pay cut---and he and his agent have been thinking it over---plus getting a feel for where else he may be wanted---and now he has decided to decline the Cardinals' offer.

I can't imagine---as fond as BA is of Redding and his leadership---that they surprised him with this news today.

The only other scenario I can think of that the team has been in trade discussions regarding DE Calais Campbell and wanted to make sure of depth at the position until they knew what they were going to do. I don't think the Cardinals really want to trade Calais, but he dragged his feet hiring a new agent and there still isn't word about what he, his agent and the Cardinals are going to do about Campbell's $15.2M cap figure. Regardless, I would imagine Redding was apprised of whatever the scenarios were.

The only reason this didn't come sooner is that the Cardinals didn't need to money to complete any of the moves they made. Not a shock to most fans and to Redding. This was a one year deal when it was signed.

Plus give him the chance to catch on somewhere else if he wants to.
