The Rochester Red Wings erased a three-run deficit and carried a late lead, but the Worcester Red Sox pushed across the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th for a 6-5 walk-off win Sunday at Polar Park.
Worcester jumped ahead in the first when Mickey Gasper lined a single to center to score Nick Sogard for a 1-0 lead. The WooSox added on in the fifth, as Vinny Capra’s two-run double to left plated Kristian Campbell and Max Ferguson to make it 3-0.
Rochester’s offense broke through in the seventh. Andrew Pinckney reached and stole second, then Joey Wiemer singled through the right side to bring him home and cut the deficit to 3-1.
An inning later, Harry Ford walked, Yohandy Morales singled to right and Brady House ripped a two-run double to left, pulling the Red Wings even at 3-3.
In the ninth, Riley Adams drove a go-ahead solo homer to left to give Rochester its first lead at 4-3. The Wings tacked on when Cayden Wallace and Franklin singled ahead of Ford’s sacrifice fly to right, which scored Wallace and stretched the advantage to 5-3 heading to the bottom of the ninth.
Worcester answered in the bottom of the ninth. Gasper singled to right and moved to second on a wild pitch before Andrew Knizner drew a walk. Allan Castro reached on a fielder's choice, and Campbell beat out an infield single, scoring Gasper. A throwing error on the play moved Castro to third. Ferguson followed with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Castro and tying the game at 5-5.
In the bottom of the 10th, Mikey Romero lined a two-out single to left, scoring automatic runner Tyler McDonough and giving Worcester a 6-5 walk-off victory.
The loss dropped Rochester to 53-38, while Worcester improved to 45-44 heading into the All-Star break.
