Chad Tracy doesn’t want wins or losses to define his legacy. Instead, he just wants to be remembered as someone who people enjoyed playing for.
“I want my legacy to be, when you look back, that people in baseball say, “Man, I really liked playing for that guy,” or “That guy is a really good human being.” That is it," the Red Sox interim manager told MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
“It’s nothing related to wins, losses or any of that. I want to make an impact on people to where they really enjoy being around you, or even if they don’t, that they enjoyed their time being around you and you made them a better person,” he continued. “That would be the highest compliment you could get.”
Tracy took over as Boston’s interim manager in April after Alex Cora and several members of his coaching staff were fired after a 10-17 start to the 2026 season. The Red Sox were 9-9 under Tracy going into Sunday’s series finale against the Atlanta Braves.
Before his promotion to MLB, Tracy spent four-plus seasons managing Triple-A Worcester where he managed a slew of members on Boston’s current roster including Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, Connelly Early and Payton Tolle.
