speedy, I don't disagree with what you're saying but IMO, this is kind of piling on. I think most of us just want to remember him as a Cardinals great where we don't have a ton of them. His demons were his business and that's the extent of it. What these players do after they take off the uniform is none of mine or anyone else's business. You would hope they enjoy retirement and life as a good person, but that certainly isn't always the case. We all know that. By all accounts he tried his best to change and he gets credit for that in my book. His downward spiral is well documented with South Phoenix public safety since the mid to late 90's. My buddy randomly hit me up me via phone out of a south PFD station somewhere around 98/99 to tell me "dude, I just ran a call on Luis Sharpe!" who had been shot multiple times.
It is what it is, and I highly doubt his behaviors just began upon retirement/was all missed by the organization over 12 seasons... kinda reminds me of the chandler jones stuff.
I think the vast majority of fans would be hella shocked to know what these guys are really like off the field and TV.
The sad truth is, he had a pretty damn good run making it all the way to 65 after 12 seasons and all the drugs.
I was by no means attempting to pile on the dude, but rather speaking about him objectively, frankly, and to the point, while also drawing the parallel with MANY of the guys who play ball at the pro level…speedy, I don't disagree with what you're saying but IMO, this is kind of piling on. Drug users live much shorter lives. Purely guessing on Shape’s medical issues here, but PEDs take 5 years off your life and hard drugs 10 years.this was very sudden. Does anyone know what happened? Hope he didnt suffer, he was a great man.
I can clap to this my brother. I meant no shade at you regardless.I was by no means attempting to pile on the dude, but rather speaking about him objectively, frankly, and to the point, while also drawing the parallel with MANY of the guys who play ball at the pro level…
For many, even though they’re making more money in less than a decade than 90% of us will see in a life of work, have a certain tick that sets them apart. Most “fans” only see the glamour and fame, but really don’t understand what ticks in the guys head to make him come back season after season, game after game, play after play. I think many fans are ignorant to the energy these guys have and what they put out.
I was more making a statement regarding this fact. The NFL doesn’t recruit choir boy pools…. At 65, I’d say he lived a better than average life span, considering all the facts. That’s all.
Which is wild when you see guys like AC/DC and the Stones just wobbling around still kicking given they eat hard drugs for breakfast lunch and dinner. LolDrug users live much shorter lives. Purely guessing on Shape’s medical issues here, but PEDs take 5 years off your life and hard drugs 10 years.
