See, I dont think its solely a contrarian take. Most people are emotionally invested in their fandom. Emotion ruins rationality. Its really effing hard to root for a team who at its core you know is rotten. For the life of me I cannot understand why I root for this team. I have even somehow drawn in 2 friends here in SC to start rooting for them.
We suck. We're terrible, we've always been terrible and most likely always will be, save for the couple of blind squirrel finding a nut seasons here and there.
It takes a special kind of idiot to be pragmatic and yet still root for this team. I don't begrudge the defenders of the Org. Deep inside, they know they're wrong. They just can't rectify that fact with wasting yet another year of life hoping that we will finally turn some metaphorical corner.
sorry for the long post Shutd, this is not all directed in response to you..but some.
we do suck..we have always sucked unless we got divine intervention for a bit of luck..Deeny Greens drafts...B.A. at coach...Kurt stumbling in for one last shot after he got disrespected in NY...but we have never taken deliberate actions that lead to success it seems.
everyone knows this...all the fans, and all the players.
thats why I am hit or miss on Briskett..dont care one way or another whether we cut him or pay him 20mil for the year..it aint my money...but dude knew who we were when he signed on...and he knew he would start a lot of games..he knew kylers injury history just like we all did...and we all knew two years ago kyler was gonna be gone before that contract was up...we had a big thread on when we could walk away without totally crippling the team...so on one hand, with briskett..im like, "Honor the deal you signed... but on the other hand...milk them for all you can get because you aint getting any younger.
Im more fortunate than many because I am an actual NFL fan, and more than that,..a student and fan of the game itself...I just happen to be attached to the Redbirds and the Raiders as the teams I have emotional stake in...bummer for me, lol.
but when you look at it from mikeys position...it will cost him 1.5mil to cut briskett...thats lost money, but its less than he has to pay him to play.
so you ask yourself...does briskett make the differrence between a 3 win season,...and maybe fighting for the playoffs?? I dont think so...pretty sure nobody else does either...briskett does not likely make the difference between 2 wins and 5 wins.....so why pay him the extra money when we dont usually roll inro rhe season with three QB's on the roster?
I think they have already decided to cut him... but they are just waiting..as a stick it to him,...waiting until its too late for him to get a decent offer with another team....punishment as it were for popping right out there and demanding a raise as soon as kyler was gone, when everyone already knew the situation.
and since his presence on the roster isnt likely to make a significant difference...I dont care either way...
I have a thought process on a way we can win some games but everyone else seems to think it crazy...so screw it..its crazy...so we roll with the idea there really isnt any hope this season...and that being the case...JB is as good as gone.
with hat we know about the team do we think it likely we carry Brisket, stache, and Beck on the roster into the season?? if not...which one is safe on the practice squad?
so im pretty sure JB is gone...this social media barrage by players might be a push to keep him on the roster
I dunno...last seasoon we were predicted to win some games and everything fell apart...its basically the same roster....so, maybe...but not likely..
my suggestion for the rest....find a reason to love the game itself...it makes even bad seasons watchable.
