Read up on patella tendon injuries if you think that.

Patella tendon injuries are the type injuries that you get nearly 100% of your performance back. And it's a freak kind of injury, not a common one.

not sure what you're reading but I've heard completely opposite from orthopods I've talked to and even players who have come back from this injury, it's taken them the majority of two years to really regain whatever form they had.

my biggest fear heading into next season is that this team doesn't make moves at RB/CB depending on guys coming back from killer injuries to man those slots. it's really a shame both Williams and Toler got hurt. The D REALLY could have used Toler and Williams would have been another potentially great weapon on O.

BPA or Need
Levi Brown. Said something along the lines of "We took Levi over Adrian Peterson with the 5th pick. And for those of you who might not know who Adrian Peterson is...he's a pretty good running back (while laughing)." Went onto to say something like Levi hasn't been a total bust, but then again it depends on whose opinion you are getting. Also said that they have stuck with BPA the last few drafts and he feels they have been very good.

The two statements here (missed AP and Levi isn't a "total bust") make you think they have learned a valuable lesson on draft day. They reached for Levi, missing out on a future hall of fame RB, and now have to deal with a player that is barely average at his position.

No. If you pay $6000 for a Gremlin and it manages to run for the next 10 years and only require preventative maintenance, it doesn't justify the purchase price.

If you pay $40 a share for Apple stock when it's listed at $20 a share, it doesn't matter whether or not the stock is worth $240 a share five years later, you still overpaid at the point of purchase.

Wrong.

You are assuming that they paid too much (acquisition price in this case being too high or too low is not a fact...just an opinion).

A trade is a risk...just like buying a stock. You are betting that your return on investment justifies the risk. In the end, if it works...it's a great decision. If it doesn't...then it's a bad decision. Both happen everyday.

The Cardinals purchased a stock (Kolb) for an investment of DRC and a 2nd round pick (who could be great or a bust)...only time will tell if that initial investment pays off.

Why is that flawed logic? You (ostensibly) know what you're getting in a player who's a know commodity like Kolb. The market sets the price for him. This is like drafting. According to you, no player is ever a reach, because if he's chosen 25th overall, then that's what his draft value is. But I know that you think that certain guys are values or reaches.

It's not an either/or proposition as you're saying with your car example. It's like if I bought a Scratchers ticket from a friend. He bought his Crosswords ticket for $5, but I really want that lottery ticket. So I give him $10 for it. Did I get a good value? Why does it matter whether or not the ticket is worth $5 or $50,000 once I scratch it off?

You're assuming infinite (or at least great) supply in each of these cases. Instead of buying a stock for $40, you could look elsewhere and find it for the listed $20. That is the flaw. No one else has a Kevin Kolb for trade.

BTW, this Q & A session seems to have little academic value (though I guess that's par for the course at ASU), though the entertainment value is clear.

No, its sports business. They more likely tried to figure out how to get ESPN to give them $300 million dollars for a Sun Devil network nobody can watch and cause the Arizona Wildcats to apply to move to the Big XII.

Thats your view of clubs and student organizations? HS & College mustve SUUUCKED hard for you.

The SB club at ASU is outstanding. case in point they got the GM of the AZ cards to come in and speak...

I went to the intro meeting last semester but couldnt find time to go every week due to pledging a frat. They had a pretty good lineup, but its clear that they really stepped it up this semester.

Im so flippin jelly bro, I knew about Graves coming because Prof Eaton (i guess hes the prez of the SBC?) told us about it. Plugging the club for the first week of class. Second he said Graves was coming I was like "Oh...snap!". But I had to work :( :( :(

lol all I can pciture of a Graves QnA at ASU would be 100 guys telling him how to run his team. I for one wouldve asked "Why does Horton insist on making PP play zone D when hes known for being the best press coverage CB in college?"

Also wouldve asked about next years draft, if we are going after Levis replacement (perfect time to ask that after he said LB is a bust) or if we will go after a pass rusher.

Did anyone ask about pass rush? Whether he thinks any of our guys look to be sufficient or if we must go get one in the draft. Anyone ask about Adubs future replacement (drafting a SS)? Since he was being so open I wouldve asked why he passed on a few guys in this years draft. Like Mark Herz. Between him and Quan, i wouldve taken Mark. Wouldve asked why he went with DA over Leinart. Matt was terrible and threw the ball 5 yards at a time, but at least he could make a completition. No doubt in my mind we wouldve been better off with ML than DA. Ask did they ever 'consider' sticking with skelton, take a dive this season and go get Luck (that wouldve been a real test of his openess and honesty). Wouldve asked why they were so quick to let Breaston go. Ask about exactly how involved they were in trying to get NNamdi - yes they 'were in it' but were they 100% effort or just half assed? Any FA they legit tried to get (that we didnt know about) that just didnt happen?

^^See, this is why im so mad at missing that and why everyone who was there should be thrilled I wasnt there. "Mr Graves..yeah, hi, i have 6 comments and 9 questions. first off.." lol

Im not really suprised he was so frank. Thats why im SOOO mad i didnt get to go. He was in front of a bunch of students, not reporters. Im sure it felt good to speak his mind for once and not give scripted non-answers.

The Kolb Trade
Said that the team was looking into Kolb, Orton, Bulger, Hasselbeck, and Palmer and that they had plan in place for all of them. Said we had offered a 1st and 3rd rounder for Kolb, but Philly had other offers on the table including one that was a 1st, 2nd, and an undisclosed piece. Philly then came back to us and inquired on a 2nd rounder + a proven player that could make an impact, preferably a corner.

Your own words k9, "the market sets the price". Yet a 1st and a third would of been overpaying? Stick to Gremlins and lottery tickets...

That said, one game won't determine who fared the best on this trade...

I don't buy that the Cardinals have been drafting BPA since 2007. Taking Peterson last April for sure. Had Toler and DRC and Roberts to return punts.

But, in 2009 they needed a RB to replace Edge and took Wells. In 2010 they needed a NT for their 3-4 and took Big Dan. 2008 is debatable; need pick if they felt they needed to move Rolle FS or BPA pick which allowed them to move Rolle to FS.

Meanwhile lets hope that this year's true BPA selection turns out as well as the last true BPA selection, Larry Fitzgerald.

Oh, and I just can't believe a Football executive or coach could be that candid in public. Kudos to you Rod for doing so.

To be fair, Wells and Dan both fell further than expected and could have easily been the BPA on their board. In 2010 Kyle Wilson is about the only other big name guy available. A lot of people thought Dan was going top 10-15. Look at 2009 when we took Beanie, not exactly an A list of "oh my god how did that guy fall this low" behind him. Everette Brown might have been the fan choice, but based on how many teams passed on him and how he has played there's a reason he went that far.

I wish I had more opportunities to ask questions, because myself and one other person (asking about Toler and DRC) were really the only ones inquiring on the Cardinals roster itself. Most people were asking him more business related questions. I wanted to ask about the upcoming draft, but seeing we are heading into week 2 I decided to go with the surprise player. I had a ton of personnel questions I wanted to ask, but only got to ask one.

Interesting, good stuff. Obvioulsy , I wasn't there but I would doubt RG flat out called him a bust. More likely, he meant Levi is not a bust, but he's no means AP and, if they had to do it over again, they would take Peterson. Levi hasn't played up to everyone's standards but I don't call a guy who has started every game for about 5 years a bust. He can be ebtter but a bust is a total waste of a pick where you get nothing out of player, lacking injury, like Wendell Bryant, Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus Russel, or Heath Shuler

He did not call him a bust, but he did say that he has not been a total bust.

This isn't a mathematics or engineering club...no one is openly playing WoW in that crowd. There is a Madden tourney setup for members though :D

Naw, going by stereotypes, as Wily so ignorantly stated, it's more likely that beer bongs and Eiffel towers were involved...high five!

Never mind. Good natured ASU - UA rubbing by wily, understandable. And it's no surprise he is sporting a UT logo as a UA alumn, I wouldn't want anyone knowing I went to that school either ;)

Whats the schedule this year? Anyone else worth noting coming in? Id drop a loaf if they got someone closer to the players like Whiz, or even a player. Guarantee Feely would be up to come in.

You know who would be perfect for our types of questions and wouldnt be hard to get since hes not a 'big deal'..Steve Keim (sp). Basically dude in charge of the draft, scouts, and very involved in FA. MAN, thatd be sweet.

Seriously bro go in there next time and start making suggestions like that.

This post isn't exactly a ringing endorsement for anything at ASU.

Just had to get into the UA-ASU banter

This makes zero sense. Sports history is littered with examples of players that teams "overpaid" to acquire who not only justified but surpassed the expense required to obtain them. Once upon a time the Lakers overpaid by trading their starting center who averaged 16/10 the previous season for some high school wing out of Philadelphia. How'd that work out?
