I've been lucky. My PS3 has been a miracle of modern technological resilience. I've been running the same console since early '07 (at an avg of about 6-8 hrs/day)and its just recently starting to show signs of near death. I figured it would've died years ago. I very rarely watch network tv so its constantly "ON" running movies,music or games constantly.
I hope it lasts till the PS4 release. Fingers crossed!

Mine too. I had to format my machine about 4 months ago and I thought it would die. I am on my first one but my 3rd or 4th xbox.
I had one of the original, but when my house or burglarized, they took it. Thankfully my insurance sent me a new one, so that one is about a year old.

"PS4 multi-player online access requires PSN and PS Plus subscription."
I guess that means it'll cost $5 a month to play games online.

Both designs are quite lackluster with a slight nod going to the PS4. Neither of them have much of a sexy design when compared to their predecessors.
its kinda funny all the people complaining about the need to be online, ive had broadband in my house for like 8 years - not sure why its an issue unless you are overseas or something. Also have subscribed to xbox live happily without blinking for quite some time now too.
I could see gameflyers being affected due to the rental thing but beyond that it allows you to share games with 10 people so I dont thinkt hatll be an issue unless you have a group of 20 friends, all pitch in a few bucks and swap the game around to each other.
Beyond those dumb complaints, both machines look sweet
Building tin foil now for the "mandatory camera". I am much more concerned with that even with all the NSA stuff and mass data collecting the government already does on me. The xbox probably has far more malicious intent.
on a side note, does the ps4 controller have a screen in the middle? what is that?

Better than the $10 for xbox a month. You would have to be crazy to buy an Xbox One over a PS4.

Damn that's pretty good. I'm a huge fan of Uncharted and the MLB the Show series so it's tempting. I'll still hold out for at least a year though for the library to build up and some of the game prices to drop a little. Hell, we just bought Gears of War 3 for $15 and Fallout 3 for $4. A little late to the party!

I think everything else will be free, though. (Netflix for example.) I can live with a fee to PLAY online because from what I can gather, PS Plus is actually worth the money.

No you pay $60 for a year subscription that works out to $5 a month. To have a monthly subscription it is $9.99
To be more on an even plane 3 months for live is 24.99 and PS plus is 17.99 for 3 months. Also plus will carry over with no additional cost while live will not.
