PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Olympia is headed to the dual wrestling state finals.
The Spartans got a pin from Kenzer Burrell at 138 pounds to finish off a 40-33 win over Petersburg PORTA in the class 1A wrestling dual sectionals at Canton High School on Thursday. Eight Olympia wrestlers were winners as the Spartans advance to the state quarterfinals in three weeks.
In other area results, Canton, Bloomington and Washington were beaten in their team sectional matches.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw got 32 points evenly split between Jerry Hahn and Zach Day as the Chiefs beat visiting Springfield Calvary, 70-66, in a non-conference boys basketball game Thursday. Girls basketball winners included Normal Community, Limestone, Tri-Valley, Eureka, Heyworth, IVC, Illini Bluffs and Roanoke-Benson.
