PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Matt Sander was nearly unhittable on Wednesday.
The Morton lefty tossed five scoreless innings and allowed just one hit as the Potters blanked visiting Canton, 10-0, at Westwood Park. Sander’s first nine recorded outs came via strikeouts as the Potters completed the Mid-Illini Conference series sweep of the Little Giants.
He fanned 11 in the game and Camden Taylor knocked in a pair of runs for Morton (6-3, 2-0). Canton (2-6-1, 0-2) mustered just one run in the two-game series which opened conference play.
Other baseball winners Wednesday included Normal Community, Dunlap and Metamora. Washington, Metamora and Illini Bluffs were among the softball winners.
Dunlap beat visiting Bloomington-Normal, 13-8, in girls lacrosse.
Limestone senior Logan Smallwood signed to run track at Butler University. Smallwood was the class 2A state runner-up in the 400 meters last May.
