Patriots Trade Proposal Sends Drake Maye's Weapon to Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Moving on from certain players has to make sense for the New England Patriots to even consider things.
The first name that comes to mind is Kayshon Boutte, as the young man reportedly requested a trade during the offseason.
However, for a Patriots team that was obviously looking to improve at the wide receiver position throughout the offseason, moving on from arguably their second-best receiver a year ago outside of Stefon Diggs, who recently took a deal with the Washington Commanders, wouldn't make a ton of sense.
Now, if the Patriots could end up with a draft pick or a player they like in return for his services, there's reason to believe it could happen. Some seem to believe that he has late-round value, though, given how young he is and the production being at the level it's been in the past two seasons, it might not be crazy to suggest that he should get more than a recent trade proposal suggested.
Kansas City Chiefs Receive: Kayshon Boutte
New England Patriots Receive: 2027 fourth-round pick
“Kansas City should be very motivated to land Boutte. Even if a Tyreek Hill reunion was always a pipe dream, his recent injury update pretty much solidifies that he won’t be playing much in 2026. With the need the Chiefs have at receiver, they can’t wait around to land someone motivated to produce. Boutte is in a contract year ,meaning he knows he has to have a good season to get a pay raise next spring,” Wynston Wilcox wrote.
Frankly, a fourth-round pick is a fourth-round pick, and it probably isn't going to do a whole lot for the Patriots.
There's a possibility that they could end up drafting a good player, as Boutte himself was selected in the sixth round. However, it feels safer to keep a guy who is coming off two seasons in which he posted at least 550 yards. Perhaps if that becomes a third, the Patriots would go in a different direction, but teams might not be willing to give that up.
