Given all the talk about the New England Patriots potentially moving on from Kayshon Boutte, as well as reports indicating that the youngster requested a trade, some have wondered why the two sides are in this situation.

While moving on from Boutte could have some benefits for New England, he's genuinely not a bad player at all. In fact, one can even make an argument that he's a very good player.

Quarterback Drake Maye has been on record multiple times saying that he likes him as a player and a target, so moving on from a youngster who fits in with the young star quarterback simply doesn't make a whole lot of sense. However, there are some other factors in play here, and according to the latest from the Boston Globe, it isn't because of money.

“Doubs is a smart, savvy veteran who will be productive for the Patriots. Making that sort of judgment on a guy like that at this stage of his New England tenure is premature,” Christopher Price of the Globe wrote.

“While contract negations are fluid, in terms of financial priorities, the Patriots are financially flexible enough to afford both a new deal for Gonzalez and Doubs’s contract. (In my opinion: Boutte is more of a personnel decision than a financial one.)”

There's so much that can happen throughout the rest of the year that this is still relatively early.

The one thing to watch out for is that the Patriots did add a few wide receivers this offseason with AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs, so it's possible Boutte gets even more frustrated with the situation.
