If anybody has anything good to say about his wide receivers in training camp, it's Drake Maye, even if one of those receivers' futures is in doubt with the team.
The New England Patriots have bolstered their wide receiver room with additions like A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, but with that have come trade rumors centered around Kayshon Boutte.
All offseason, Boutte has been at the center of trade talks, with landing spots like the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants, and Indianapolis Colts emerging as potential destinations if the team were to agree to terms to send him elsewhere. However, it's been highly publicized that if the Patriots were to trade him, they would want to do right by a guy like Boutte, who had a remarkable 2025 campaign and was key in getting that team to the Super Bowl.
Despite all these trade rumors, there are also reports that Boutte is off to a fire start in training camp, proving to his current team (or maybe even his future one) that he's still a valuable asset despite all these transactions taking place this offseason.
Who better to back that up than Drake Maye when he spoke to the media on Monday after Boutte had made a great catch during offensive team drills.
"I mean, it's nothing new. I mean, you guys see it every day. I mean, all year, last year and year before, and he just keeps doing things right," Maye said, per Mark Daniels of MassLive. "And I'm proud of him for getting in there, jumping in there, and he understands if he's got something down the sideline and a ball down the field that he's got a chance that it's coming his way. So, great catch."
Despite Boutte being on the trade block for the better part of the past six months, there is a flip side to that argument. He's in a contract year; he's a valuable asset to the team and a dependable deep threat for Drake Maye. Sure, maybe his reps go down since the arrival of A.J. Brown, but why not let Boutte go out there and keep making plays in 2026 before discussing his future on another team?
