New England Patriots rookie edge rusher Gabe Jacas is still hard at work in his preparation for the 2026 season, despite remaining the only unsigned second-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Jacas has dealt with multiple injuries in the offseason, but he appears to be trending in the right direction toward being available to play. However, the Patriots and the former Illinois standout defender are still believed to be hung up over the contract.
Jacas has been hard at work in the weight room, but the real challenge will be getting up to speed with the defense after missing all of the spring practices.
He posted a video of himself squatting a lot of weight in a recent Instagram story.
The Patriots are hopeful that Jacas can contribute this season.
Along with tight end, one of the weakest positions depth-wise for the team is at edge rusher. They signed veteran Dre'Mont Jones in free agency to play across from banged-up veteran Harold Landry III. Behind those two defenders, the Patriots are currently down to Elijah Ponder, Bradyn Swinson, Jesse Luketa and Quintayvious Hutchins on their roster.
