Orioles' Adley Rutschman gets significant trade update from ESPN insider originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Baltimore Orioles, at a 29-33 record, could very well become trade deadline sellers this season if they falter from now until August 3.
In such a scenario, there is bound to be plenty of interest in the Orioles roster, especially in their lineup. Taylor Ward is their obvious top trade candidate, but what about Adley Rutschman, who's been floated in trade rumors recently?
Well, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, Rutschman received a significant update on his trade market that revealed when he might be available for trade. But, fans will have to wait a bit, as it's not until after the 2026 season comes to a close.
Adley Rutschman trade update reveals Winter timeline
"A potential Adley Rutschman trade is more likely a winter conversation," Passan writes. This is a big update on a potential blockbuster deal.
Just having the Rutschman rumors not totally shut down is noteworthy, as it implies that the Orioles might actually trade their All-Star catcher.
But this update also reveals when Rutschman might be a hot topic in trade talks. After the 2026 season comes to a close, teams might finally have the chance to add the star catcher in a trade.

After Rutschman struggled last season, posting a .220 batting average with a .673 OPS, and with the promotion of Samuel Basallo, there were plenty of trade rumors about Rutschman.
The Orioles decision not to trade him last offseason was a great move, as he's hitting .258 this season with an .811 OPS, which is in line with his peak production.
Baltimore trading Rutschman this upcoming 2026-2027 offseason is in play, according to this report from Passan. Since he's a free agent after 2027, a trade this offseason would make sense.
Based on this update, Orioles fans might have the rest of the 2026 season to enjoy Rutschman for what might be his final year in Baltimore.
