Can't wait to see the latest from PTA. Have always loved me some pregnant ladies with machine guns. ;) Sounds about right for Arcata and Eureka where some scenes were filmed, not far from the State of Jefferson where I live.

That looks great.

Is it weird that I got a hybrid PTA/Wes Anderson vibe?
Hmmm… didn’t feel Anderson vibes at all. Maybe because Del Toro is in both PTA and Anderson’s next two movies and those trailers are both playing at the same time?

Um, what? No, it was mostly the editing, the short pieces of dialogue that really did it.

Interesting. Didn’t get that feeling at all. Also at this point, Wes’ movies/trailers have much more whimsy to them while not looking like they even take place on this planet anymore.

This definitely looks more like PTA working in Inherent Vice mode where he’s going a little screwball, yet violent comedy.

I wasn’t the biggest Vice fan and appreciated Thread for its craft while
not falling in love with it, but I thought Licorice Pizza was a nice rebound from those two movies and PTA plus DiCaprio is a combo too awesome not to get excited about.

I want them to stop the trailers. Giving away too much of the movie!

I can’t believe WB gave PTA 130 million bucks to make this.

This was definitely… an experience. I had no idea what to expect and it was still much different from what I expected. If that makes sense.

It’s A LOT. Going to require a second watch.

Saw it again.

I REALLY can’t believe Warner’s gave PTA 130 million bucks to make this.

But again, it’s a wild ride and such an interesting choice of character for DiCaprio to play. I don’t really want to say anything more for those who want to see this. But between this and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, he has become an absolute master of not only subverting expectations, but finding a way to deliver a real performance that feels both grounded and really funny at the same time.

Benicio is amazing in his role also and Regina Hall can devastate with just one look in her eyes and my only nitpick is I wish there was more of her in the movie. Oh, and Sean Penn is flat out unhinged.

Sinners is my favorite movie of the year hands down, but this def my second favorite movie of the year and also truly bold storytelling/filmmaking for a variety of reasons.

I had no interest until I read about the backlash from...certain parts of the US terrorizing the others. Now it is a must watch.

If you can make it thru the first 25 min or so it gets good. It really turns into a thriller after the bank robbery. I wish PTA made more movies like this.

I finally got around to watching this and was blown away. What a wild ride. I'm not a big DiCrapio fan but I loved how he played this character. Great acting all around! I would actually give the slight edge to this movie over Sinners. Loved them both though.

Bite your tongue. If Sinners doesn't win, you might as well say what we knew all along--the "academy" is full of ***** and horror movies will never be respected.

Huh? YOu want Sinners to win just to prove that horror movies can win awards?

I still think Hamnet is the frontrunner here.

I believe Stout has said Sinners is his clear number 1 from last year regardless and that the horror thing will just prove it’s a category the academy won’t recognize. But he can speak for himself if I’m wrong there.

I think the only major award Hamnet wins is for Best Actress. All the other big boys Director, Best Pic, Best Screenplay, Best Adapted, Best Editing, even best Score likely get split between Sinners and One Battle with One Battle being the overwhelming favorite having swept most major awards so far (I go Sinners as my number 1 for personal taste last year).

That's fair. I actually prefer Sinners and One Battle in that list, but to be fair, there are a lot of nominees I haven't seen.

I tried to see Hamnet at a screening and the first five minutes were a definite vibe. Unfortunately, that’s all it was as the sound continually went out at the same point FIVE TIMES they tried to get it right before calling it quits.

I’ve got a screener for it but my cheap ass is still hoping one of my SAG friends gets another screening for that and Marty Supreme to see those in the theaters.

That's a bummer. Is it a DVD screener? I'm surprised they are still using the old physical media for it.
