NEW YORK — The issues are growing for the Mets, and they are not only related to the win-loss column.
With the Mets set to complete their three-game series against the Nationals at 1:10 p.m. on Thursday at Citi Field, the club placed Luis Robert Jr. on the injured list with a lumbar spine disc herniation.
Robert received an epidural injection and will be shut down from baseball activities for seven to 10 days.
It has been an ugly nine-game homestand, with Francisco Lindor landing on the IL with a right calf strain, Kodai Senga placed on the shelf with lumbar spine inflammation. Those two injuries piled on to the Mets missing Jorge Polanco with a right wrist contusion.
Freddy Peralta will try to provide some positivity as he makes his seventh start of the season. The 29-year-old right-hander enters with a 1-3 record and 3.90 ERA. He struck out eight but allowed two earned runs on seven hits and three walks in 5⅔ innings last time out.
The Mets enter the day with the worst record in Major League Baseball at 10-20.
The Nationals will turn to Miles Mikolas for Thursday's start. The veteran right-hander is 0-3 with an 8.49 in six appearances, including three starts this season.
