Long before A.J. Brown became part of some of the NFL's biggest trade rumors and before three All-Pro nods, the Philadelphia Eagles made a first-round trade to acquire his services.
But you already know that story.
Long before any of that happened, Jason McCourty was ending a respectable four-year run with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. What does Jason McCourty have to do with anything, you ask? Sit tight! We're going somewhere.
The Tennessee Titans drafted McCourty in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. There's no need to do any mathematical calculation. No, McCourty and Brown were never teammates.
McCourty's eight-year run ended in 2016. Tennessee would draft Brown in Round 2 three years later. He teamed with Derrick Henry, where they established a friendship that continues today.
Henry recently made his public recruiting pitch to Brown. A few days later, he reiterated his interest in a reunion, but hold on for a second. It appears that Jason McCourty has entered the chat.
Jason McCourty is a busy man. After leaving Tennessee, he spent a year with the Cleveland Browns (2017) and three with the New England Patriots before playing one final professional season with the Miami Dolphins.
He has since worked on the NFL Network's Good Morning Football. He helps call Thursday Night Football radio broadcasts on Westwood One. We have also seen him help call games on CBS.
Recently, he appeared on ESPN's highly popular morning show, Get Up. There, he added another feather to his cap, offering career advice to one A.J. Brown.
And, there you have it. Add the Buffalo Bills as a possible landing spot thanks to McCourty's analysis. Interestingly, he didn't name the Patriots. That seems to be a popular talking point, especially now that Mike Vrabel, Brown's former head coach, is leading them.
This just isn't going to go away, is it? Brown, as recently as Super Bowl week, reaffirmed his interest in staying in Philadelphia. We'll see what happens on that front as well.
For now, it's just more noise in an offseason that thrives on it. Until A.J. Brown's actions say otherwise, Philadelphia remains home. Time will tell what the Eagles' brass decides to do.
