Thirty-two Mid-Hudson high school athletic programs have been recognized for academic excellence by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.
A total of 118 schools have received the School of Distinction Award (up eight from a year ago), presented to those that have achieved 100 percent of its varsity teams earning the Scholar-Athlete Team Award, established in 1991-92. Another 237 schools have received the School of Excellence Award (up 16 from a year ago), with three-quarters of the varsity squads achieving the same team award.
The Distinction Award has been presented since 2002-03 and Excellence Award since 2016-17.

"These awards recognize entire school communities that value success in the classroom as much as success in competition.''
Zayas said the purpose of the awards is to unite athletic departments in challenging their teams to achieve a statewide academic honor.
Section 9 has schools in Orange, Ulster, Sullivan and Dutchess counties. Section 1 has schools in Dutchess, as well as Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties.
Winning schools will receive their commemorative awards in the fall.
