Twenty-seven teams qualified for the Section 9 softball tournament, and the brackets were released on Thursday, May 20.
The top seeds are Pine Bush (Class AAA), Valley Central (AA), Saugerties (A), Spackenkill (B), Pine Plains (C) and Eldred (D).
In the latest New York sportwriters rankings, the Section 9 ranked teams are (records through May 17): Class AAA - No. 14 Pine Bush (14-3); Class AA - No. 15 Goshen (12-4); No. 21 Valley Central (13-3); Class A - No. 19 Port Jervis (11-5); No. 25 Marlboro (10-3); Class B - No. 20 Sullivan West (12-2); Class C - No. 2 Pine Plains (14-1); No. 22 Burke Catholic (12-3); Class D - No. 15 Eldred (8-2).
In the 2025 sectional finals, No. 4 Middletown beat No. 2 Monroe-Woodbury in Class AAA; No. 2 Goshen downed No. 1 Minisink Valley in AA; No. 1 Marlboro topped No. 2 Saugerties in A; No. 2 Highland beat No. 1 Sullivan West in B; No. 1 Pine Plains beat No. 2 Tri-Valley in C; and, No,. 2 Eldred beat No. 1 Chapel Field in D.
In the state playoffs, Middletown got a bye and lost to Corning-Painted Post 6-0 in the AAA quarterfinals; Goshen got a bye and lost to Horseheads 4-1 in the AA quarterfinals; Marlboro got a bye and lost to Miller Place 6-5 in the A quarterfinals; in Class B, Highland beat Solvay 10-1, beat Hastings 17-2 and bowed to Haverling 6-0 in the semifinals; Pine Plains got a bye and lost to Tuckahoe 6-0 in the C quarterfinals; and, Eldred got a bye and lost to Argyle 6-3 in the D quarterfinals.
