He also said, paraphrasing here, our teams will now be tough and scrappy.

I am giving the guy some credit. Ishbia reevaluated our team. Ishbia saw our teams were old, small, and slow. They went younger, bigger, and faster. He did what he said he would do, part one, so far. Let's see if the coach is aligned and can make this team tougher and scrappier.

The teams that beat the Suns last year, would just swarm us on defense, and disrupt any offense we thought we had. This is a problem I am worried about going into this season. How exactly will we overcome this issue? I think offense will be our struggle. Defense we should at least be average. We were not even close to sniffing average last year.

I've seen this movie!

Kevin Towers took a young, playoff team with a ton going for it... decided they needed to be tough, gritty and scrappy and within 3 years he had ballooned the payroll and created one of the worst teams in baseball!

Towers was one of the worst GMs in baseball. However, we were not anywhere near a playoff team. Plus Towers lied. He always signed overpaid free agents. it "looks" like Ishbia has learned his lesson for now. We will see.

They won 94 games his first year with a roster that he almost entirely inherited and proceeded to destroy.

As far as Ishbia goes, I HOPE he learned his lessons but I've yet to see any indication, he doesn't even seem to know what the lesson would have been the way he talks.

Suns, owner Mat Ishbia sued by minority owners alleging mismanagement, lack of transparency

“Kisco WC Sports II and Kent Circle Investments are demanding the teams open their books amid claims of mismanagement, side deals with other partners and a retaliatory capital call.”

Typical, we will drag you into the mud, make you look bad, UNLESS you pay us...

Just... wow...

I had to check to make sure this was a real quote.

The expert morons out there thought we were good and we sure showed them! Idiots!

This might be the worst excuse for doubting the prognosticators I've ever heard.

HAHAHAAHAA I just saw this. It's a joke, right, something AI-generated?

I think you guys are making a mountain over a mole hill. Doesn't bother me. Kind of a funny thing to say. Yeah, we thought we were going to be good and so did the experts but we were both wrong. I think the more import thing is what he says after about making a gritty, hard working team which we can all be proud of. Build it correctly (kind of like what we had before Ish took over) and let the chips fall where they may.

But yeah, why worry about what the "experts" have to say. Maybe they'll be right or maybe they'll be wrong. Time will tell. But who cares? Just play the right way and build a good team and see what happens. You can't control what others' think.

Yeah Ishbia needs to sell tickets. Of course he's going to claim we'll be good. He'd be dragged if he said he agrees with the experts also for having no faith in the team and building a loser.

I do worry a little that he thinks this is a complete team but at the same time we didn't inquire about Kuminga if we thought the team was complete. I'd rather wait for a good deal, that may never present itself, than take the wrong deal. We took the wrong deal a few times since Ishbia has been here. Patience is key.

If Mat Ishbia had gone after a top GM to replace James Jones, I would feel better about the situation. This is where it starts. I don't like owners playing GM. We saw how that worked with Robert Sarver.

However, maybe there weren't good ones available. The Suns don't present the image of a stable franchise.

im not worried about the team - they've got my interest - i have no ultimatum laced expectations - but it seems like ish is always in the ish house with some kinda drama - if this is a safe space and if we're keeping it real im starting to hope ish isn't just not some narcissistic ish bag who got here 10 years too late - how's that for a weird take

I totally agree with Sarver. I remember all the guys on ESPN saying we would be a force, and even a couple saying we were going to win the NBA Championship. Plenty of people anointed us Champions. Shows how it's just people's opinions, and they can be wrong.

Guys. I cannot imagine any owner not being involved in the decision-making. Do you really know of any NBA owner that is not? The question about Ish will be whether he learns or not. He clearly is interested in winning and is willing to spend money to get there. Now he has to learn how best to spend money to get there. Things could be a lot worse. Things have been a lot worse.
