Have to think it's a young guy with LeBeau as a mentor?

Can we at least hire guy who can:

Cover TE's

Not leave receivers wide open

Put constant pressure on the QB

Not let QB's like Wilson run free all over the place

I know it's asking a lot but how many times did guys get wide open and nobody was near them?

Was it blown coverage or was the defense designed that way to fill other areas and the OC figured it out?

The DC isnt the one covering TEs or rushing the QB. That has been a problem through our last 2 coordinators who were both lauded for their coaching during their tenure. It is a personnel problem.

This...The questions should be more like: Can we please draft an athletic LB, that can cover TE's and isn't a troublemaker always getting suspended?

ESPN has pegged 6 potential replacements:

Dick LeBeau -- The favorite to replace Bowles, except the 77-year-old may not want to venture as far west as Arizona and leave his family in Ohio. LeBeau and Arians worked together on Pittsburgh's staff from 2004-11, meaning he also is familiar with offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin, who was a Steelers' offensive assistant from 2007-11. LeBeau is known for running a 3-4 scheme, so there wouldn't be a transitional period for the Cardinals' defense. His age wouldn't be a factor considering the Cardinals have two coaches over the age of 70 -- Tom Pratt and Tom Moore -- and one more, Larry Zierlein, who'll turn 70 in July.

Nick Rapone -- Currently the Cardinals' defensive backs coach, Rapone, 58, has defensive coordinator experience. He held the position at four different colleges -- Temple, Pittsburgh, Connecticut and Delaware -- before joining Arians' staff in 2013. The two worked together at Temple from 1983-88 and Rapone coached Bowles with the Owls.

James Bettcher -- The youngest on the list at 36, Bettcher has been the Cardinals' outside linebackers coach the past two seasons. He's proved this season his ability to work with personnel issues when Arizona was without John Abraham, Matt Shaughnessy and Alex Okafor at some point throughout the season. He has Arians' trust. Bettcher spent 2012 as the special assistant to the head coach in Indianapolis and Arians brought him to Arizona.

Wade Phillips -- Out of work since 2013, Phillips, 67, has been a defensive coordinator and head coach since 1981. He runs a 3-4 scheme, so, again, it would be a smooth transition for the Cardinals' defense. His defenses have been ranked in the top 10 against the run in 10 of Phillips' last 15 seasons.

Vic Fangio -- Fangio would only be an option if he's let out of his contract with San Francisco, but there's quite a bit of uncertainty if that will happen. Arians and Fangio were on the Indianapolis Colts' staff in 1999 and 2000, when Arians was starting to mold Peyton Manning and Fangio was the defensive coordinator. They're also linked by Chuck Pagano, who was on Baltimore's staff with Fangio from 2008-10. Arians has faced Fangio the last two years, going 1-3 against the Niners since becoming Arizona's head coach in 2013. Fangio has been a 3-4 coach for a long time, so the transition would be minimal.

Mike Caldwell -- Currently the Cardinals' linebackers coach, Caldwell may not be an option if he joins Bowles in New York as his defensive coordinator. If he stays in Arizona, Caldwell would bring not just two years of experience under Bowles in Arizona but the 2012 season they spent together on Philadelphia's staff. Of any coach, he knows Bowles' scheme, which worked for the Cardinals, the best.

It sounds like Fangio is not a choice of Arians and Caldwell is going to NYJ so we can cross those two off already.

Rappone and Betcher are in house and I remember Arians sounded like his candidate was out of house HOWEVER, with the possibility of Dick in a Moore role, he could go with a young assistant to pair with him.

The only outside person on the list would be wade phillips who I dont know a ton about but I know he WAS a respected DC and still could be.

Zasty IS coming back.

Let's not forget, though, that when Zasty first came to AZ, it was off a leg injury in Cleveland...If memory serves, he didn't look that great when he got to AZ and many were questioning him as the Cards punter...but he got better over time, as he fully recovered.

What I'm saying is, don't expect the "old" Zasty right away, when he comes back.

I will predict that whoever we hire several people here will blast the hiring and make tons of posts declaring the guy unfit for the job including making fun of him with stuff about his name. Then the season will start and if the defense goes through a transition they will proudly declare see I told you he was a bad hire.

And then if the defense starts playing well, they will start posting man I hope we don't lose him to another team.

Exactly what happened the last 2 times.

We went all out to stop the run and create turnovers... people being wide open and big plays happen when you have a lot of guys in the box and are trying to cause a turnover :)

Can we at least hire guy who can:

Cover TE's

This is one of the hardest things to do in the NFL on defense. TEs are 6'4" and up, while LBs, CBs, and safeties are usually 5'10" to 6'2". There's always a height disadvantage. Then when you're covering a freakish athlete like Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham, or Jared Cook, their athleticism makes them almost unstoppable.

Imagine Calais Campbell with speed and agility of a wide receiver, and it makes a lot more sense why the top tier tight ends are so impossible to cover regularly, no matter what defense you're running.

Can we revamp our entire special teams coaching staff while we are at it?

Lets draft a TE to play a new position, DTE.

IF the DC can coach and play that would be amazing!
