The Toronto Maple Leafs haven't had great playoff history recently -- or really, in a long time.

One stat circulating social media helps emphasize that, and it came to light after Mitch Marner notched a hat trick on Friday night in his first season out of Toronto, playing now for the Vegas Golden Knights.

He's only the second player drafted by the Maple Leafs to score a playoff hat trick in the salary cap era, according to Big Head Hockey.

The other was Nazem Kadri.

And neither Marner nor Kadri did it while playing for the Maple Leafs.

In other words -- the Leafs have never gotten a playoff hat trick from a player they drafted (in the salary cap era).

And, well, that can't be good.

Toronto's playoff misery, without a Stanley Cup Finals appearance or win in 60 years, is about much more than just whether their homegrown players can score three goals in a game.

But still -- it's not ideal that the only draft picks who have ever done that did it in other uniforms.

Just one more bit of sadness for the Maple Leafs in a postseason that they're only able to watch from home.
