The NFL's new league year kicks off on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. The Cards will likely release WR Robbie Anderson and his non-guaranteed $12 million salary well before that date, nearly doubling their available cap space to about $26 million.
Then the work begins, starting with how to deal with presumptive starting/unreliable center Rodney Hudson. You see, Rodney Hudson has the 12th-highest 2023 cap number on the team (just $4.8 million), but he's also due a $1 million roster bonus on March 21. If the Cards cut him before that date, they'll have to eat $5.28 million in accelerated cap charges. If they designate him a June 1 cut, they'll pay him $1 million for doing nothing (but clear an additional $2 million or so on the 2023 cap, moving the $3.8 million charge to 2024).
Monti needs to convince Hudson to officially retire before 3/21 and forego that bonus.
Also, Jordan Phillips is going to count almost $6 million on the 2023 cap because Steve Keim is a drunk idiot and a failure.
