not sure but I think if Caleb throws a picksix I'll win.

Caleb Williams is not good, even if you squint.

He tends to throw sidearm and those are the ones that sail on him, but you can see the live arm and the great legs. Needs polish but I'd certainly take him over McCarthy

He just doesn't have any touch at all. Overthrowing receivers all game, very late on throws, etc.

This game is more confirmation for me that Petzing really does suck. It only took a half of football for McCarthy to settle right into a qb friendly scheme. No wonder they didn’t care to resign Darnold…The coaching is too good.

yeah they both tend to throw everything hard but he's just got a much higher ceiling than McCarthy. He's like Josh Allen when he first came into the league, anybody's guess if he works as hard as Josh does

Congrats to McCarthy and hats off to the coaches I would have pulled him after that picksix but they stuck with him and he played well after that.

Man this whole thread was a JOURNEY for some of y’all

56 yards passing a picksix, followed by a horrible drive where he had a delay of game on 3rd down and then the coach ran it on 3rd and 18 afraid to let him throw. Next drive 2 screens to RB's and then a short incompletion and a punt. And then he got his sea legs and had a terrific 4th quarter.

he was abysmal through 3 quarters. Had a great 4th quarter. All the credit in the world for not folding but he was absolutely awful for 3 quarters of the game.

so the theme this week is to continue building on the success he found late in the game. He figured it out.
thats the coach speak on it....thats what they will tell the owner over the phone while they are pounding cheap scotch in their office hoping like hell they are right, lol

Still feel the same. Both teams looked terrible.

yeah he had a nice 4th quarter but I think that's as much to do with the Bears being tired as most teams get in the first game. Plus the guy who had the picksix, Nashon Wright, was an injury replacement for the starter Jalon Johnson, Wright pulled up lame 3rd quarter on a play we never actually saw how he got hurt seemed to just pull something as he was running. He went out and never came back in so they had a 3rd string CB playing the entire 4th quarter.

Congrats to McCarthy and hats off to the coaches I would have pulled him after that picksix but they stuck with him and he played well after that.
I imagine this is what you do when you draft a young QB who is resilient.

One of the reasons McCarthy is going to be successful is because he is with a coach who has demonstrated the ability to get the most out of QBs. KOC was a 4 year starting QB in college and then had a short pro career. His OC is the son of Wade Phillips and played QB for 3 years a UTEP. The QB coach is Josh McCown who had an 18 year NFL career. They had McCarthy work with Brian Flores all of last year after he was injured to learn about NFL defenses and coverages. Next level support and plan for a young QB to grow and be successful.

This is one area where I will defend Kyler to a degree, especially under Monti and Gannon. Dude has the Hamburglar to give him feedback and bounce ideas off of and Mini Me calling plays. It's not a shock our offense sucks IMO. There is not one individual in the building who has an understanding how to get a QB in rhythm on offense, and how to call a flowing offensive game. It's pretty much throwing spaghetti against the wall and Kyler seems to go along with it.
