Missouri baseball has kept its season alive for at least one more game.

No. 16-seeded Mizzou beat 9-seeded Ole Miss 10-8 on Tuesday in Hoover, Alabama, in the first round of the SEC Baseball Tournament for the program’s first postseason win since 2017.

Missouri will take on 8-seed Mississippi State in the second round of the conference tournament, with first pitch scheduled for 9:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday in Hoover.

Kerrick Jackson’s Missouri team is now 24-30 this season. The Tigers need to win the SEC Tournament to make an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2012.

Missouri last won an SEC Tournament game in 2017, when the Tigers opened the postseason with a victory over Texas A&M in former head coach Steve Bieser’s first season with the program before losing two straight in what was then a double-elimination format to end their year.

Ole Miss (36-21) is out of the SEC Tournament but will earn an at-large berth to an NCAA Regional.

Missouri scored its go-ahead runs on back-to-back singles from second baseman Blaize Ward, which allowed shortstop Kam Durnin to score on an error, and catcher Mateo Serna in the top of the eighth.

The Tigers had built a big lead in the fifth inning behind a Kaden Peer grand slam, but Ole Miss responded with a four-run bottom half of the inning and tied the game in the seventh inning.

Missouri went 6-24 in regular season SEC play.
