The other negative (potentially) is that he only held Shanahan under 30 pts once in the 4 times they faced off. The one time he held them under, Nick Mullens was their QB.

I did not know that, and it is the best argument for staying away. My initial point was that he brings what they (might) want, though.

Most of the time, the HC interview will result in who they have in mind or lined up for a staff. That's why they moved so quick on ST coach. He was available, and had a prior relationship with LeFleur. It's an advantage of hiring someone who has been in the league for awhile and worked for several teams.

I think it was Josh Weinfuss who tweeted that a source told him it might take long before they get a DC. Might fit with my suggestion of Leslie Frazier, since he is in the Super Bowl, or Jim Schwartz, since he is on contract with the Browns. I mean, coaches on the open market are obviously free to sign right now.

I actually think Rallis is very talented, but I never got to like the defensive scheme, which I am sure he would continue with.

He never made adjustments

Ran a soft zone with the DB's playing way off the receivers

Had many receivers wide open and unaccounted for

Brought very little heat

Ran few stunts and blitzes

Very weak unimaginative DC

Dominic Zvada was my daughters friend from grade school/high school and has been the kicker for Michigan the last couple of years. Out of curiosity, have you heard anything about him regarding potentially getting a chance in the NFL?

Several have him as the top place kicker in the draft. I expect himtobe drafted on day 3. Hard to pick the round as it’s hard to tell when someone gets jumpy and simply grabs him.

I have no way of knowing why, but it was glaring to me (and I mentioned it in several posts) how small and inexperienced Gannon's staff was. Whose choice was that and/or why? It could have been Gannon but it could have been Bidwill.

#2 is huge if you want to hire someone already under contract elsewhere.

Pettine was awful as a DC

I dunno about awful.

In 2009 he took over a Jets team that had been ranked #18 (points) / #16 (yards) the year prior, and made them the #1/#1 defense in the league, losing in the AFC Championship game.

That Jets team regressed to #3/#6 (again lost in the AFC Championship game), #5/#20, and #8/#20 over the next three years - mid but not awful.

In one year with the Bills in 2013 he took a defense that had been #26/#22 the year prior to #10/#20, and got a head coaching gig with Cleveland for the following two years.

Then in 2018, he took over a Dom Capers Packers D that had been ranked #26/#22, and improved it to #21/#18, #16/#18, and #2/#9 over the next three years, culminating with two consecutive losses in the NFC Championship game.

Wink Martindale's philosophy would be a huge departure from the prior defensive scheme for the Cardinals.

The 62-year-old blitzes at an incredibly high rate (40%).

He also plays a lot of press-man.
