Former Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has found a landing spot in the NFL.
Grier, who was fired on Oct. 30, is joining the Detroit Lions as a personnel executive, according to ESPN. He will be working under Lions GM Brad Holmes, who has made diversity a priority while creating a pipeline for future Black GMs.
Grier had been the Dolphins’ GM since 2016. He spent 25 seasons in the Dolphins’ organization, rising through the ranks after starting as a scout. But his tenure was shaky after the team failed to win a playoff game during his time heading the front office and many of the team's draft picks and free agents were busts. After the 2026 season, the Dolphins had 16 players on their roster who were drafted by Miami.

Grier was very complimentary about Holmes during an interview with ESPN last year.
"Brad, first of all, is a tremendous person," Grier told ESPN. "That's always how he's carried himself from literally when he was an area scout when we met years ago on the road. He's such a presence because he's such a good person with his work ethic and how he works. He treats everyone like he's known you for years and to have that kind of skill is underrated because everything in this sport is a relationship business and he's fantastic at creating relationships with people and it helps him get information and find out about people and get to know people."
The Dolphins are in a major rebuilding phase after also firing coach Mike McDaniel after the 2025 season. Owner Stephen Ross hired Jon-Eric Sullivan to replace Grier as GM and Jeff Hafley to replace McDaniel.
In announcing the Grier "mutual departure," Ross said, “As I assessed the state of the team and in my discussions with Chris, it became clear to both of us that change could not wait. We must improve — in 2025, 2026 and beyond — and it needs to start right now."
