The Miami Dolphins parted ways with longtime general manager Chris Grier last October. Interim general manager Champ Kelly finished out the 2025 season before the club hired Jon-Eric Sullivan as their full-time replacement earlier this year. Early Wednesday morning, Adam Schefter of ESPN announced that Grier will be joining another NFL organization for the 2026 season.
Grier will be taking his talents to the NFC North as he’s has been hired by the Detroit Lions as a personnel executive.
Prior to the “mutual parting of ways” that took place on Halloween of last year, Grier had been with the Dolphins since the 2000 season — serving in numerous roles during his time with the organization. He had been the club’s general manager since 2016. During that time, Miami had an 82-83 regular season record. They made the postseason three times, but lost all three Wild Card contests.
Grier will now join the Lions who are coached by former Dolphins interim head coach Dan Campbell. Campbell coached the Dolphins to a 5-7 record following the firing of Joe Philbin four games into the 2015 season. One of his first moves on the job, Grier interviewed Campbell for the team’s full-time head coaching position prior to the 2016 season, but ultimately hired Adam Gase instead.
