Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews was asked this week about taking on a larger leadership role in a reshaped tight end room following offseason changes that saw departures of Charlie Kolar, Isaiah Likely, and Patrick Ricard.
Andrews spoke highly of his former teammates while also expressing excitement about the group taking shape under tight ends coach Zack Grossi.
Andrews was slated to hit free agency this spring, but now, he'll remain, while Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar depart for the Giants and Chargers. The $13.1M per year average makes Andrews the sixth-highest-paid tight end in terms of average annual value, behind the Cleveland Browns' David Njoku and ahead of the Cowboys' Jake Ferguson. The Ravens added veteran Durham Smythe in Free agency, and Baltimore could again double-dip at the position in the draft.
Andrews also highlighted Durham Smythe and rookie Lucas Scott as part of the group taking on larger roles moving forward.

“Well, I’m excited for those guys. Those guys have worked their butts off: Charlie, Isaiah and ‘Pat.’ They put in the work, and they saw the reward,” Andrews said. “And I’m excited for them to go out there and improve everybody again and again. But I’m excited about this room. I’m excited about Coach Grossi, and he’s been awesome. Durham has been awesome. I’m excited about that. And then having Lucas in the room. So we’re going to have a great room. We’re going to focus on the details. We’re going to get better. We’re going to elevate each and every day, and that starts from Coach Grossi. He’s made it known from the start that we’re just going to get better and better.”

“And I think the best thing about this coaching staff is they’re always preaching communication… communication, communication, communication. So for all of us, just taking this time to bond, build chemistry, all that stuff is going to be good.”
