New Ravens tight end Durham Smythe didn't need much convincing once free agency began. During an appearance on The Lounge with Ryan Mink and Garrett Downing, Smythe explained why Baltimore quickly became the obvious fit for him this offseason. For Smythe, familiarity with new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle’s system was a major factor after the two worked together previously in Chicago. But beyond scheme fit, Smythe said the Ravens’ identity as an organization made the decision even easier.

“This organization over the years is tier A. This organization is synonymous with winning. Tough AFC North football — this is cool stuff to be a part of.”

Smythe also said being able to join a tight end room led by Mark Andrews only added to the appeal.

“Being able to come in and work with Mark a little bit, I think it was a perfect situation for me.”

The veteran tight end described signing with Baltimore as “kind of a no-brainer” once those pieces came together.
