KERNERSVILLE — Ledford defeated Bishop McGuinness 6-3 in nonconference girls’ tennis at Civitan Park on Monday to open the fall sports season.
Avery Dunbar (6-0, 6-2), Chloe Ko (7-5, 6-4) and Roxy Bean (6-2, 6-4) won in singles for the Panthers. Daelyn Denton/Reagan Butcher (9-8(7-4)), Helen Clodfelter/Dunbar (8-2) and Ko/Bianca Gonzalez (8-3) won in doubles.
Amelia Zook (6-3, 6-4), Porter Redmond (6-3, 6-4) and Stella Ropko (6-1, 6-2) won for the Villains.
OAK GROVE, MOUNT AIRY
MIDWAY — Oak Grove edged Mount Airy 5-4 in nonconference girls’ tennis Monday at Oak Grove.
Ashlyn Klass (10-6), Annelise Richardson (10-2), Sydney Portis (10-0) and Avery Butcher (10-5) won in singles for the Grizzlies (1-0). Richardson/Portis (8-1) won in doubles.
VOLLEYBALL LEDFORD, EAST DAVIDSON
WALLBURG — Ledford rallied past East Davidson 3-2 in nonconference girls’ volleyball Monday at Ledford.
The Panthers (1-0) won the final three sets, capturing the decisive fifth set 15-11, after the Golden Eagles (0-1) won the opening two sets.
WHEATMORE, CENTRAL DAVIDSON
TRINITY — Wheatmore lost 25-14, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21 against Central Davidson in nonconference girls’ volleyball Monday at Wheatmore. The Warriors opened their season 0-1.
BOYS’ SOCCER EAST DAVIDSON, NORTH DAVIDSON
WELCOME — East Davidson won 3-2 over North Davidson in nonconference boys’ soccer Monday at North.
The Golden Eagles, who led 1-0 at halftime, opened their season 1-0.
TRINITY, GLENN
TRINITY — Trinity opened its boys soccer season with a 2-0 win over Glenn in nonconference action Monday at Trinity.
FOOTBALL HITOMS JAMBOREE SCHEDULE
HIGH POINT — Here’s a look at the schedule for this week’s Triad Kick-Off Classic high school football jamboree hosted by the High Point-Thomasville HiToms.
Scrimmages will be Wednesday and Friday at the High Point Athletic Complex.
On Wednesday, in a JV matchup to start, High Point Christian and Ragsdale will take on Bishop McGuinness and High Point Central at 6 p.m. Ragsdale and Bishop will meet in a varsity matchup at 7, and the teams will trade off against Jordan-Matthews at 7:20. Games will be in AJ Simeon Stadium.
On Friday, with JV games at adjacent Aderholdt Track and varsity games in AJ Simeon Stadium, Jordan-Matthews and East Davidson will play while Glenn and Ledford will also play at 6. Southeast Guilford-Thomasville and Southern Guilford-Southwest Guilford will be at 7:30. High Point Christian and TW Andrews will be at 8:45.

NO. 16 MEN’S SOCCER TOPPLES NO. 3 FURMAN IN EXHIBITION
GREENVILLE, S.C. — The No. 16-ranked High Point University men’s soccer team defeated third-ranked Furman in an exhibition match Saturday at Furman.
The Panthers, who reached the Sweet 16 of last year’s NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history, will play again Wednesday at Wofford and host Queens on Saturday to end their preseason slate.
High Point will open its season Aug. 20 at home against LIU.
