The Kentucky Wildcats undoubtedly have improved their roster over the last few months. After the bulk of transfer portal targets signed elsewhere, with Kentucky whiffing on many of those top talents, it seemed like Mark Pope and the Cats may limp to the finish line and then have another tough season next year.
That couldn't be any further from the truth, as Pope was able to get Kentucky-native Malachi Moreno back after he decided to withdraw from the NBA Draft. The addition of Iowa State sniper Milan Momcilovic will be critical for the Cats' success as well. He also tested the NBA Draft waters just to eventually opt to return to the collegiate game for his fourth season.
The Cats have a solid all-around roster, and to be frank, this could be the most talented roster that Pope has had, at least being somewhat comparable to the one he brought in his first season, which featured BYU star Jaxosn Robinson. That means expectations will be high for Pope's third season in Lexington.
Jon Rothstein, a popular college hoops analyst and well-known media personality, has dropped his 45 best teams in the country, and the Cats were ranked No. 15.
The Cats are going to be in a pretty competitive SEC next season, with Florida ranking as the best team in the conference. Alabama and Arkansas will also have quality rosters and terrific coaching. Tennessee is a top side to keep an eye on too, having added one of the top transfers in Wake Forest star Juke Harris.
Nonetheless, there's no excuses for this Kentucky side. It has shooting, size and playmaking. The defensive side may be a concern, but there's undoubtedly going to be an influx of talent available for Pope.
