As the calendar has flipped to April, the search for a new head coach at North Carolina continues on. There have been rumors of top candidates in terms of Tommy Lloyd, Dusty May and Billy Donovan, which has caused them to have to be patient.
With May and Lloyd in the Final Four, North Carolina hasn't been able to fully make their pursuit. As we continue on, with the search, analysts are offering insight into the best fits. The latest was former UNC standout Justin Jackson who compared Lloyd's potential fit with the program to his former coach, Roy Williams.
Here is what Jackson said on "The Field of 68" podcast Tuesday night:
"You look at some of these coaches that have basically flat-out said no, like T.J. Otzelberger at Iowa State was basically just no. Some of these other coaches were a no. I haven't seen him really so," Jackson said. "Whether that's him saying 'I'm focused on this team, I'm focused on this moment, and whatever happens after that, I don't know.' When I look at this Arizona team, it looks exactly like the North Carolina teams under Roy Williams."
"You look at the size, you look at the offensive rebounds, the points in the paint, great point guard play. Then you have wings who are long, athletic, play defense and can shoot from the outside. It looks so similar to those teams."
Jackson goes on to say that's what is really intriguing for him in terms of finding a fit for Lloyd at UNC. That's what North Carolina essentially has to get back to as we really haven't seen the traditional "North Carolina" style of play the past few years.
It remains to be seen what happens with Lloyd and Arizona this weekend. But he continues to be the top target on the board.
