As North Carolina's head coach search continues on, there's been a bit of a pause in it so far. That's due to two of the rumored top candidates in Arizona's Tommy Lloyd and Michigan's Dusty May squaring off in the Final Four on Saturday night.
North Carolina has had to patiently wait until either team loses in the NCAA tournament. But for one candidate, his name continues to come up in the UNC rumor mill and he's doing his best to not be distracted.
When meeting the media on Tuesday, Lloyd was asked about his name continuing to come up and be mentioned with North Carolina. He denied that he as distracted by any means.
"Guys, this team has my full focus," Lloyd said. "Nothing, nothing, I promise you NOTHING, is knocking me off that path. You might call them 'distractions,' but it's cause you're distracted. That doesn't mean I'm distracted."
This comes just days after Lloyd mentioned that there will be another coach after him at Arizona to continue the legacy on. Those comments came after Saturday's win over Purdue and drew some interesting responses.
He addressed that again on Tuesday.
"It's true. There's going to be another coach after me," Lloyd said. "It's a great program. I didn't say when. This team has my whole focus. Nothing. I promise you, nothing is going to get me off this path."
For now, all we can do is speculate. Arizona is preparing for the Final Four against Michigan and North Carolina is still waiting as they seek their next head coach. Things could pick up next week and we will see if Lloyd is truly interested or not.
