I don't think Love is worth the #3 pick either. Few running backs have been in modern football.

I'm not opposed to Love but he is my distant #3, and maybe #4 after the trade down option.

Mauigoa isn't worth the #3 pick in a standard draft but he is in this draft
Not really shilling for love with my disagree, but Mauigoa isn't worth the #3 in any draft, unless they are way worse than this. He isn't even a consensus top tackle in THIS draft. He is not worth the #3 and shouldn't be considered there. No OT should.

You're right. I should have pluralized it because it COULD be absurd, given circumstance. What IS ludicrous is prioritizing OL to the detriment of talent in a draft when you have Brisset and Minshew as your QBs. Go with the higher talent level. It's a no brainer. Not doing so would be patently absurd.
If you plan on drafting a QB in the future, having bookend tackles would be ideal...moreso than a RB

In this draft he is, hence why you see him mocked top five over and over.

I don't know about the "by all accounts". Love has warts too, he's not especially good as a power runner, he's more of the shifty elusive type.
Show me anything that has him graded than a single olineman. Not drafted lower, graded lower.

Heard an interesting stat today. I think most if not all of us have said that drafting a RB high is poor value because you can get a good to great RB in the later rounds.

Stat is that 10 of the 11 top Rb's last year in yards were drafted in the first and second rounds. Your elite Rb's are taken sooner than later, pretty much like every other position.

Maybe we should take Love with our #3 pick?

Love is that good he just played less snaps like Gibbs because he’s younger. If he plays his 21 year old season he’s up there with Peterson and Jeanty stat wise. I also look at less wear & tear as a positive.
He also played at note fame and a notre dame schedule not Boise state.

Fun fact. I think Adrian Peterson and the Arizona Cardinals have the same number of Super Bowl titles. Unpopular opinion is that the Cardinals did not make a mistake passing on Adrian Peterson...they made a mistake in selecting Levi Brown over Joe Staley.
They’d both have one if he had been toting the rock against Pittsburgh.

This is a game of semantics here: you said fewer warts, I think Mauigoa doesn't have a lot of warts to his game. I think Love has some too, or warts to his resume as a prospect I should say.

And it doesn't matter about grade..this is silliness. Hypothetically if a FB was grade a 97 and a QB was graded an 89, and you needed both, would you take the FB? No because positional importance matters. And I'll argue that tackle is more important than a RB since a tackle plays every place and influences both the pass game and run game mightily.

Roster construction also matters. The Cardinals don't have one RB, but they do have multiple decent, NFL caliber players. At RT the Cardinals have...Wilkerson, who blows. So if two players are close at positions of need, which Mauigoa and Love are, you take the player you need.

Here are Zierlein's grades over at NFL.com. One quick note, only one player has a "Pro Bowl" grade. YIKES.

Don't be disingenuous. You see him mocked specifically to the Cardinals over and over. That doesn't mean he's worth it; that means experts think the Cardinals will draft him.

I misremembered, he was in fact 22.

Which...doesn't really matter much.

The age thing really only matters for longevity and RB isn't a position known for longevity so...

But I'll default again to the question: who the hell is going to block for Love? Gibbs had Conklin and Sewell to spring him, Love would have PJJ and... Wilkerson?

I know drafting an OT isn't a sexy move, but it's the winning move. It will make the run and pass game more effective.
After the Marvin harrisson debacle I can’t see Monti wanting a skill player in the first…deep down I know he wanted alt and bidwill wouldn’t let him have him

I love when someone includes an age to accentuate an argument and then when they find out they were FIVE YEARS off they brush it off as a “don’t matter much.” Lol. Okay krang.

Are you posting as proof mauaiga is rated higher than love?!? wtf?

The sign of a good organization, any organization doesn’t need to be football team is to have your general principle but be flexible to the facts sitting before you. In this case that’s generally take a tackle (albeit a LEFT tackle - never heard ANYONE argue for positional superiority for a RIGHT tackle in the draft before) over a rb. But a great organization understands that’s a baseline rule. If no player is of the caliber for the value then pivot to get the best talent. PAETICULARLY when you aren’t ready to compete TODAY. Who cares if brissett or pornstache get crunched this year? When you’ve got your QB next year sign the best free agent or work the trade phones to get a PROVEN tackle to bookend with PJJ. And oh yeah, you’ll have a good rb to help alleviate the load.

Our Division---after you discount the Cards---is one of the toughest in the NFL. The ‘Strength-of-Schedule’ perk given over to bottom-feeder teams just doesn’t apply this year to the Cards. Because of our Division opponents and the rotation outside the Division, Cards have one of the biggest on paper SOS disadvantages going into 2026. Depending upon which source you check, we are rated with the 3rd or 4th hardest schedule. So much for that part of parity and the anticipated perk of being one of the worst teams the year before.

It is not too much of a stretch to anticipate going 0-6 within our Division. It remains to be seen how many of our IR wounded will make it back to the starting lineup. Add in a newbie offense—our new HC will be calling the plays has not done this during a game for four years (believe this was reported upon his signing). Our HC is coming from a West Coast background—if that is his inclination, do we have the talent to implement this?

So—how does this relate to the draft? At #3, we are in position to either trade down for additional picks OR take a top player at his position. With a 3-14 legacy, we have plenty of Needs that can also be addressed by BPA. That’s another unique advantage of being a bottom feeder team at the top of the draft. Regardless of tactic or who we draft, we are not going to fix this mess in one draft—or even several more.

Long-term roster construction just has not worked for the Cards. We are forever in spin-your-wheels and go no where. Forget all the current philosophies on how to ‘build’ a team. It is all blabber when it comes to the Cards and the impatience with HC that have them fired before that team-building effort takes hold.

So, who do I want at #3. We need a game changer–or at least someone who can single-handedly manhandle the opposition. Love is that player. He is a ‘two-for-one’ with his running and receiving ability. Adding him to our O will open up our game plan for our other skill position players. Will he get us into the play-offs? Probably not—but neither will a RT who projects to RG. I’m easy to please at this point—I just want to see a Cardinal player score a TD. At least we can get some exciting plays from Love and maybe win a game or two above another 3-win season. LOL.

This is an unusual draft. It seems defense heavy but one thing is certain. Were going to find out. There are no sure first round talent imho. Taking any player at 3 is a roll of the dice.

Admire your thoughts but who are you going to cut. Only 3 rbs gonna make the team

There is validity in the assertion that a good OL (meaning one that ranks in PFF Top Ten) is a necessity for a successful team.

A Seahawk fan (Mustard Jam) did a deep-dive into the SB participants since 2016:

Offensive line rank of every team to make the Super Bowl since 2017

I used PFF end of season rankings. No, PFF is not flawless but it still does a good job of ranking lines.
2024: Chiefs (#4) 49ers (#9)
2023: Chiefs (#3) Eagles (#1)
2022: Rams (#7) Bengals (#20)
2021: Bucs (#5) Chiefs (#11)
2020: Chiefs (#16) 49ers (#14)
2019: Patriots (#4) Rams (#6)
2018: Eagles (#1) Patriots (#3)
2017: Falcons (#6) Patriots (#10)
Of the 16 teams to make the Super Bowl 11 had a top 10 line. Nearly HALF had a top 5 unit.
There is only 1 team to not have a line that ranked in the top half of the league. That is the Bengals with a top 3 QB and a stacked offense.

(Link was block by Microsoft Edge????)

The OL is indeed a major requirement---but it has to be surrounded by talent in all the other parts of the roster. SB teams meet that total team talent roster. The Cards do not and never will in my lifetime and more than likely in the sorry lifetime of anyone else here who call themselves a Cardinal fan.

So, in the meantime, lets watch Love bust a move and gain some yards. We ain't going nowhere so at least give us a player with some excitement. (See Fitz, Larry Centers, Boldin, Warner)
