ESPN college basketball expert Jay Bilas predicts the Georgia Bulldogs will beat the Saint Louis Billikens in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Bilas likes Georgia's athleticism and thinks the Bulldogs will win in what could be a high-scoring matchup.
Georgia and Saint Louis are both among the top-10 scoring teams in the country. Georgia scored a team-record points total this season and averages 89.8 points per game. UGA faces off against Saint Louis, out of the Atlantic 10, who scores an average of 87.2 points per game.
Georgia leads the nation in fastbreak points per game at 19.9. Bilas thinks Georgia has a decided advantage in transition. The Bulldogs like to utilize a lethal combination of blocks and steals to fuel their elite fastbreak offense.
"Saint Louis hunts great shots and runs a beautiful offense," Bilas said. "Georgia has better athletes -- sophomore Jeremiah Wilkinson averages 17.0 points per game -- and can beat Saint Louis in transition."
Georgia and coach Mike White have to be concerned about Saint Louis' offense, which is led by Atlantic 10 player of the year Robbie Avila. The Bulldogs face a Saint Louis team that shoots over 40% from three-point territory (the Billikens are one of only three teams in the nation to do so).
Georgia has a middle of the pack three-point defense (No. 175 in the nation). Bilas envisions Georgia's March Madness run coming to an end in the second round against No. 1 seed Michigan, who he thinks will advance to the Elite Eight.
No. 8 Georgia and No. 9 Saint Louis play on Thursday, March 19 at approximately 9:45 p.m. ET in Buffalo, New York.
