The Boston Red Sox are sputtering. They've lost four of their last five games, falling to 9-15 on the season. They're also last in the AL East and tied for the fourth-worst record in baseball.

Nothing's going right for the Red Sox. Between injuries, slumping hitters, underperforming pitchers and shaky defense, they're struggling in all areas.

After Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the New York Yankees, Jarren Duran shared his thoughts on what he thinks is wrong with Boston.

"I’d say we’re putting pressure on ourselves," Duran told The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey (subscription required). "I think that we’re just trying to do too much. We’re trying to dig ourselves out of a hole."

“We’re in Boston. It’s a big market. And we want to produce for the fans and produce for ourselves and for the team. The Red Sox have a big legacy that obviously, even if you try not to put that pressure on yourself, it’s there.”

Things definitely seem to be snowballing for the Red Sox, especially at the plate. They've clearly been pressing, chasing too many pitches out of the zone and making weak contact rather than doing damage on pitches inside the zone.

That includes Duran, who broke out with three hits on Wednesday but is batting .194/.266/.306 with one home run, 22 strikeouts and 14 hits.

"We’re in Boston," Duran told McCaffrey. "It’s a big market. And we want to produce for the fans and produce for ourselves and for the team. The Red Sox have a big legacy that obviously, even if you try not to put that pressure on yourself, it’s there. It’s just part of it."

While the results haven't been there for Boston, Duran says the team is working hard to turn things around and believes it will happen soon.

"We are really young, and it’s just getting through those bumps and bruises," he added. "I remember I took my bumps and bruises coming up playing in the big leagues. We got some young guys that are in here for the first time. And it’s just one of those things. It’s just baseball. We’re going to get through it together."
