Jarren Duran is quietly cementing himself as one of the most prolific leadoff hitters in Boston Red Sox history.

The 29-year-old outfielder has been with the team since he made his MLB debut in 2021. He became an everyday starter in 2023 and has played in 372 of 384 possible games since 2024.

Duran got off to a rocky start this season, to put it generously. But he has been one of the league's best players in the month of May.

It only took him five pitches to continue his scorching hot month on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians. Leading off the game, he smashed a belt-high fastball 402 feet and touched them all.

The home run was the 11th leadoff home run of his career. It broke the tie he previously held with Jacob Ellsbury and thrust Duran into second place all-time in Red Sox history.

He now trails only NL MVP and 2018 World Series Champion Mookie Betts, who hit 20 leadoff home runs in his time with Boston.

At the pace Duran is going this month, Betts' franchise record may not be safe for long.
