For the second time in these NBA playoffs, the Oklahoma City Thunder had a big-time win clouded with another murky injury. They picked up a season-saving 122-113 Game 2 win over the San Antonio Spurs — but at a cost in a Pyrrhic victory.
Jalen Williams sustained hamstring tightness. He exited after the first quarter. He logged seven minutes and had four points and one rebound. Brutal. Just absolutely brutal. The Thunder eventually ruled him out in the second half as Cason Wallace replaced him to start the third quarter.
You gotta feel for Williams, at this point. This is his fourth hamstring injury in five months — two on each leg. And considering it was his left leg, which he hurt in OKC's Game 2 win over the Phoenix Suns on Apr. 22, you gotta feel ominous at best about his long-term status as the 2026 Western Conference Finals are on an every-other-day basis.
It's been an injury-plagued year for Williams. He was limited to 33 regular-season games due to two wrist surgeries and two hamstring strains. Those woes continued into the NBA playoffs. He played one game before he sustained a hamstring strain that cost him a month.
Even with the Thunder playing it safe, Williams aggregated it again not even two full games since his return. He played in OKC's Game 1 loss to the Spurs. They will see how much time he misses. Think it goes without saying that his potential absence could completely alter the series odds.
