Welp look at that, a player that sacrificed money. Not exactly the same as what I was referencing with book, bc this wasn’t sacrificed to get more cap room, but it does somewhat fly in the face of “get everything you can.”
Brunson proved that the “get everything you can” notion isn’t a hard and fast rule with his last extension.

He doesn't have to become a pass first PG but if he can become a playmaking guard like Booker that will help.

I think we're going to look a lot like Cleveland last year with Garland and Mitchell. Neither is a true PG but together they equal one.

My only optimism with this is looking back at James harden. Before going to Houston he only averaged 3.7 assists per game in 32 minutes per game. Once in Houston with the ball placed in his hands he gradually grew his assist numbers over five years:
5.7
6.1
7.0
7.5
11.2

Btw, looking at hardens numbers over his career are really mind shattering. I’ve never been a big fan, but holy cow.

The Harden story is an encouragement.

I do think this is the right choice. If you are going to build around Booker, let Book be the best Book. Don't make him change his game for others, let them change their game for him. This also establishes Book as the Alpha on the team.

If Green can make it work, great. If not, try something different. Green has the handles, speed, and athleticism to play the point and defend it. He was showing a lot of defensive improvement going into last year. He hasn't played with an offensive weapon like Book to pass to.

I could work. Maybe.

IDK if Green can become a PG averaging a lot of assists. However, with no scorers with him to play with, his assists will be low. There were games with Booker where he could have add 15 assists, but guys missed lay up after lay up, or couldn't hit the broadside of a barn on open jumpers. Your assist totals are only as good as the scorers you play with. I am assuming Green would get at least 5 assist from just passing to Booker in a game. Immediately, that's an improvement in his average assists per game. I think the bar is low on what most expect from Green at the PG position.

flow and effort - efficient and selflessness - these are mere words to us mortals but it's what separates the league minimum from shoe deals - what ish is doing - idk- he's going young - and aside from book he's starting from scratch

Got the right mentality. Hopefully they can keep it.

I do like the hunger in Green. Least he is saying the right things now, same for Brooks.

I think this is the right move giving Green the pg duties. Since he did have the ball in his hands a lot this helps him consider his shot selection, provides pressure on the defense, and allows Book to be sg. He hasn't had another scorer like Book at his side as well.

This is the main thing that has me curious to see this duo. Green has never played with a truly elite scorer before, and it will be quite interesting to see what he can do playing alongside someone with the gravity that Booker creates. In a perfect world he will make the defense pay enough that they won't be able to sell out on stopping Booker and they will free up space for each other.

Hopefully, when Book gets double teamed, he can quickly get the ball to Green and he can be slammin' on those fools.

Something to think about when looking at it this way.

Green is coming off a season where he averaged a team-high 21.0 points and 3.4 assists per game for a Houston Rockets squad that earned the 2-seed in the Western Conference. It’s unfair to categorize him as a bad player when he started all 82 games for a team that good, and last year he joined Anthony Edwards, Luka Doncic, Blake Griffin, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade as the only players in the last 25 years to reach career totals of 6,000 points, 1,300 rebounds and 1,000 assists through their first four NBA seasons.

That article paints a very bleak picture of Green as a ball handler. He was worse than I was giving him credit for, much worse.

If the experiment doesn't work at guard, I can see Collin Gillespie being used more and more at point guard. The Suns could be forced into playing a lot of small ball lineups by the need to put their best players on the court.

They took the top trade they could find, not necessarily the best fit.

I'm not surprised that's what you took from that article. ;)

Near the bottom of the league in facilitation, dead last among volume shooters, and while he creates a lot of "shots" for himself, they're low value shots and he rates very poorly at making them, not just bad but in the bottom 10% at every range except the rim.

I mean... I don't know what other take to have after reading that.
