Jun. 11—GRAND FORKS — Jadyn Keeler's season began with cross country in the fall.
She won the Summit League title, led UND to the team championship and was named the conference's athlete of the year.
Keeler then pivoted to the indoor track and field season, where she won three more Summit League titles — the mile, 3,000-meter run and 5,000-meter run — while earning Track MVP honors.
In the outdoor season, she ran down more Summit League crowns — the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the 5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run, while earning another MVP.
"It's been a season to remember for sure," Keeler said. "I've been continuing to up my game season after season. This one has been no different. I've set a lot of personal bests. I feel I've been building momentum heading into my final race ever at UND."
Keeler's decorated career will end this weekend at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Keeler is scheduled to run in the 10,000-meter final at 9:56 p.m. Thursday on ESPN2 and the 5,000-meter final at 8:55 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2.
"It's definitely sad, for sure," Keeler said about the end of her collegiate career. "But I think I'm really proud of the work I've put in over the last five years. This week, I hope I get to showcase all of that, show the training I've been doing, and get a result I'm proud of."
Keeler, of Barrie, Ont., has competed in five consecutive NCAA Championships beginning with last year's indoor track and field competition.
She has earned All-American honors in cross country, two All-American honors in indoor and one in outdoor. She will try to add to that this weekend.
"If you know anything about Jadyn," UND coach Jim Vahrenkamp said, "you know there's more in the tank. I'm excited to see what she can do."
Keeler has been a leader on and off the track for UND.
She's already graduated with a degree in molecular and integrative biology and was named the Summit League's Scholar-Athlete of the Year a season ago.
"In chemistry, a catalyst is something you add that makes a big change to the system," Vahrenkamp said. "Jadyn and Yonca Kutluk have been the catalyst for the change of our program from top to bottom. You have those people who push back on you and say, 'You can't do this here because it's cold.' They understand what they're capable of. They're able to work to achieve things. Because they do things, other people see that they can do things.
"When Jadyn leaves, her impact on the program will remain. We'll be sad to see her leave, but glad she was here."
