Roman Anthony has been getting a lot of attention lately, and deservedly so. But Boston Red Sox fans shouldn't sleep on his teammate and fellow outfielder, Jarren Duran.

Duran may have taken a small step back last year, but he appears poised to take a giant leap forward this season based on how his spring has gone.

The 2024 All-Star has been a beast at spring training, slashing .500/.619/1.188 with three home runs, two doubles and two stolen bases in seven games so far. He was exceptional during the World Baseball Classic as well, going 5-for-15 with three homers.

Surprisingly, it's not a swing change that's driving this early success.

What I’m hearing with less than a week left in Red Sox camp:

*where Triston Casas starts the season
*digging into upward mobility clauses
*what adding relievers Danny Coulombe and now Tommy Kahnle means
*the risk/reward of the WBC

“I don’t care, that’s my whole mentality,” Duran told The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey after returning from the World Baseball Classic (subscription required). “I get a hit, sick. I get an out, sick. I just don’t care. Not make everything bigger than it needs to be, not make anything higher or lower than it needs to be, just staying even.”

That more laid back approach seems to be working great for Duran. He also worked with hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin in the offseason to improve his decisions at the plate and in-game strategy.

Ultimately, the goal is for Duran to be a more confident hitter. It's paying off so far, and if it translates to the regular season, Duran could be headed for another MVP-caliber year.
