After an up-and-down May, the Boston Red Sox enter June last in the AL East and eight games below .500. They still have a lot of work to do if they want to get back in the playoff hunt.
This month will be a critical stretch for them, as 16 of their 27 games are against divisional opponents. The Red Sox must play well over the next few weeks if they're going to make up ground in the standings and dig themselves out of their early hole.
While Boston's lineup is still without two of its best hitters in Roman Anthony and Trevor Story, at least Jarren Duran is picking up the slack after a torrid May.
Jarren Duran has flipped 2026 on its head with a fantastic month of May:
130 PA
.261/.331/.548
9 HR (of his 10 this season)
.879 OPS
.377 wOBA
137 wRC+

After a sluggish April where his performance seemed to suffer due to inconsistent playing time and Alex Cora's constant lineup tinkering, Duran caught fire in May. The former All-Star gave the Red Sox's offense a massive spark from the leadoff spot with nine home runs, the most of any month in his career.
Duran's power binge has been huge for a Boston lineup that ranks 29th in homers and 23rd in slugging percentage. He also slashed .261/.331/.548 with 22 RBI, 14 RBI and five steals, giving the Red Sox a major boost with his all-around production.
After ending May on an eight-game hitting streak, the 29-year-old outfielder will try to keep it up in June. Boston needs him to keep making things happen at the top of the order if it wants to make a dent in the standings this month.
