No coach survives a 3-14 season without facing questions. That reality helps explain why New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn recently appeared on Pro Football Focus' list of NFL coaches entering the 2026 NFL season on the hot seat.

Whether the designation is entirely fair is another discussion, but the reasoning behind it is easy to understand. The Jets were one of football's most disappointing teams a season ago.

After arriving with a reputation as one of the NFL's brightest defensive minds, Glenn's first season in New York produced few positive results. As PFF states, the Jets finished 3-14, posted a minus-203 point differential, and they rarely looked competitive against the league's better teams.

PFF also mentions that New York ranked no better than 29th in offensive or defensive EPA per play while finishing 31st in overall team grade. Those numbers make it difficult to argue against the pressure Glenn now faces, especially seeing as how they were worse on defense, and that's supposed to be the side of the ball where Glenn's expertise should show up.

The pressure is mounting. Expectations were never sky-high entering Glenn's first season, but whether fair or unfair, the NFL is an unforgiving terrain that doubles as a 'what have you done for me lately?' playing field.

Does Aaron Glenn deserve more time as Jets head coach?

Aaron Glenn's Jets coaching staff inherited numerous roster issues. They lacked depth in key areas and entered a significant transition period.

Even so, few anticipated a campaign that would end with only three victories and statistical rankings near the bottom of the league. Locker notes this while also stating that New York retained Glenn while making substantial changes elsewhere.

The Jets revamped portions of their coaching staff, adding experienced voices such as offensive coordinator Frank Reich and defensive coordinator Brian Duker. They also invested heavily in improving the roster, adding players such as David Bailey, Kenyon Sadiq, Omar Cooper Jr., Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Demario Davis.

The message from the organization appears clear. Improvement is expected immediately. Whether the decision is made that Glenn deserves more time may ultimately define the Jets' season.

The NFL has become increasingly impatient with rebuilding projects, especially when early results are poor. However, successful organizations often resist the urge to make emotional decisions after one disappointing season. Glenn's resume remains impressive. Before arriving in New York, he helped transform the Detroit Lions' defense into one of the league's better units and became one of the most sought-after coaching candidates in football.

The Jets hired him because they believed he could build something sustainable. One difficult season should not completely erase that belief. Still, coaching in New York comes with unique pressure.

If the Jets once again find themselves near the bottom of the standings, discussions about Glenn's future will only intensify. If the offseason improvements produce results, however, this hot-seat conversation could disappear as quickly as it arrived.

For Glenn, the mission entering 2026 is simple: win enough games to make the debate irrelevant.

Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 offseason.
