Is it time to call Cooper a bust?

He'll be starting within the next few games, and will from there foreward.

I've more or less said my peace on this thread, but Shane's post was such a smorgasbord of balderdash that I wanted to post one more time.

The dude broke an ankle well over a year ago...

He broke his leg. Also, I didn't know that he needed surgery to repair it. That sounds weird; it didn't look like a compound fracture to me.

He has been through training camp and still can't get on the field...

He missed significant time in training camp. I know once it was for the turf toe and earlier it was with a sore knee that had to be "drained."

He's healthy enough to play yet can't unseat either guard in front of him one of which was an UDFA and he is the #7 pick overall in round 1...

I think that is fair; I'm starting to wonder whether Cooper has landed himself in Arians's dog house.

He's making huge money!!!!

He's making $425k in salary and had a $571K roster bonus at the beginning of the year.

Fun Fact: "Dead Money" has the highest cap number on the Arizona Cardinals, at $13M. Levi Brown's cap number of just over $6.5M would give him the fifth-highest cap number on the team. Ugh.

Adam Snyder's dead money number would put him 9th at $3M.

He put on way to much weight which shows an extreme lack of discipline...

Was this ever reported by anyone, or is basically everyone saying that he "looked" fat? Cooper's listed weight is 314 lbs, which is only 3 lbs heavier than his Combine weight.

At this point he's a bust any way you slice it... Maybe he will turn it around but I won't bet on it.

I'm not betting on him turning into the player we hoped we were drafting, but I expect that he'll be able to provide some value.

Sure it's disappointing that Cooper hasn't secured a starting spot yet. But to call him a bust is a bit premature.

We need to stop making excuses for every player who doesn't work out. The bottom line is has he contributed to this team, and the answer is no.

He's a high #1 pick who has contributed NOTHING.

I thought I remember hearing the surgury was just to put a plate to stabelize it due to his size and never heard anything about a compound fracture. Who knows.

if he's contributes nothing this season, he's well on his way to bust territory. Our Gs aren't good... if a number 1 pick can't unseat either one all season, that's incredibly bad news.

I need to see the tape from where Cooper "looked good" last year before he was injured. Didn't he get hurt on like the first play of the 3rd PRESEASON game?

Did he really look that good in those first 2 preseason games last year? Enough to think he will be a perennial pro bowler for the next 10 years like some seem to think?

I don't get see anything from him so far to think he's not just another fat ass sitting on the bench for 3 or 4 more years and then sent packing.

Granted, it is early and he may be all of that and a bag of chips. Based on past experience with this team and its o-line I am not holding my breath.

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Rookie guard Jonathan Cooper underwent successful surgery Sunday to repair a fractured left fibula and likely will be placed on the NFL's injured reserve/designated for return list, meaning he would be eligible to return later in the season.

Players on the IR/return list must sit out six weeks before being allowed to practice and eight weeks before being allowed to play, although Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Monday that Cooper might not be ready to return until Week 12.

"The best part is that the operation went great," Arians said, adding Cooper did not require any rods or plates to help heal the leg. "The doctors were very positive about it. Whether he can come back, we'll wait and see for a couple more days. There is a chance he could come back with six games to go."

There is a chance he won't be in shape and be playing six games into the following regular season, too. :p

He looked good on the play he got injured on. He pulled and was blocking downfield, and was injured several yards past the LOS when the RB was tackled behind him as he was about to blow up a guy.

It was the third quarter as well, not the first play.

If he's not at least a quality starter next season then you can close the book on him. It's premature right now to say he's done.

For whatever my opinion might be worth to you, from what I remember from last year, Cooper was playing very well prior to his injury. He didn't look like Larry Allen, but if we wanted a developmental Larry Allen, we would've drafted Chance Warmack (who has also disappointed and screwed up an essential QB sneak last week). He looked as good or better than Daryn Colledge did last season playing the same position, and Colledge is a long-time veteran. Cooper had a lot of room to improve.

Fair enough. I can see that and respect your opinion.

I just don't know how much stock to put into it all personally. Wasn't attacking, just wondering if all the hype on him is truly warranted.

It's all good and I hope he turns out to be a great pick. So far, he hasn't IMO.
